Mohsin Naqvi’s surgery of the Pakistan Cricket continues as the lens focuses on the playing strips.
The Western Australian curator, Tony Hemming has been appointed by PCB as the chief curator on a 2-year contract. He has been given the charge of making cricket pitches in Pakistan of the international standards which, hopefully, will make for interesting red ball and white ball matches.
The cricket enthusiasts of the country hope that his stewardship over the playing surfaces will infuse some life in the notoriously dead pitches of the country. He succeeds Agha Zahid whose tenure ended on 30th June 2024.
Hemmings has an experience of nearly 40 years in this field and he has worked in different cricket grounds around the world. In his home country, he has prepared pitches in Melbourne, Perth and in Tasmania. He has also helped held curator’s jobs in Qatar and Saudi Arabia where cricket is a new sport.
Hemmings has also worked in Bangladesh. Other than this, Hemmings was the ICC head curator in Dubai from 2007-2017 where he was responsible for all the pitches being prepared in the United Arab Emirates. UAE has also served as the home venue for Pakistan between 2009-2017, therefore, he is not unknown to the PCB.
Tony Hemming’s responsibilities include preparing pitches for the upcoming home test series of Pakistan and the prestigious Champions Trophy, 2025 which is scheduled to be held in Pakistan next year.
